CHARLOTTE, N.C. — September 14, 2026 — Subsalt today announced the general availability of Subsalt Secure Runtime, a secure computing environment that gives health systems a new way to make protected health information (PHI) available for analysis without exposing patient-level data.
Within Secure Runtime, anyone authorized by the health system can use Python to calculate metrics, test hypotheses, and visualize results through heatmaps, charts, and scatterplots. Organizations retain control over who can access the data, how it can be used, and which analytical outputs can be exported.
"Healthcare data is one of the most important assets for improving human health. But data-driven innovation can't come at the expense of patient privacy. The new secure computing environment in the Subsalt platform uniquely treats both data access and patient privacy as first-class concerns so that our customers can innovate quickly and responsibly."
Ben Winokur, Chief Executive Officer, Subsalt
Secure Runtime extends Subsalt's privacy-preserving health data platform, which generates de-identified digital twin patient populations from an institution's data. Datavant previously evaluated and certified Subsalt's digital twin technology under HIPAA's Expert Determination method.
In a new evaluation, Datavant extended its assessment to Secure Runtime, reviewing its aggregate outputs and the automated privacy tests that govern what can leave the environment. Datavant has now certified Subsalt's de-identification technology across both components of the platform.
"Subsalt demonstrated a clear commitment to data privacy through their active collaboration with our team, working closely with Datavant's privacy experts to integrate rigorous risk assessment metrics for attribute and membership disclosure risks and align with the 'very small' risk HIPAA Expert Determination standard."
Dr. Emily Payne, Senior Data Scientist and Privacy Expert (Privacy Solutions), Datavant
Alongside Secure Runtime, Subsalt is making Subsalt MCP available to customers. Subsalt MCP enables AI chat tools to connect to an organization's custom de-identified datasets, subject to its existing access and governance controls.
"Historically, getting answers from health data has required clinical expertise to frame the question and technical expertise to navigate the underlying systems. Natural-language interfaces help close that gap by allowing clinical experts to interact directly with the systems that hold the answers, including through agents acting on their behalf. Subsalt MCP makes that possible."
Luke Segars, Chief Technology Officer, Subsalt
Subsalt Secure Runtime and Subsalt MCP are now generally available to new and existing Subsalt customers.
Subsalt will demonstrate both products at booth 5122 during Becker's Healthcare Health IT + Digital Health + RCM Meeting, taking place Sept. 14–17, 2026, in Chicago. Attendees can see how Claude uses Subsalt MCP to query de-identified health data.
